I’m Lauren Nofi and I’m a Site Assistant this year at the dig. You may have spotted me around town with Sam Williamson proudly introducing me as ‘The American’! This is my first season in Cromarty, and it’s already shaping up to be a blast. I hold a Masters in Archaeology from Sheffield University, and previously I’ve taught at a site in Northumberland you might have heard of – Bamburgh Castle. I’ve also served as an intern at the Smithsonian Museum, so it’s absolutely lovely getting back to my roots: actual excavation!

This first week I’ve got to work with finds and sampling, a large passion of mine. I love working directly with artefacts because I love that tangible connection to the past. So far, I’ve really enjoyed working with the local school groups and residents, and everyone has made me feel very welcome. I’m looking forward to seeing how our site progresses over the next few week.
